Bicester Motion’s journey started in 2013 with the acquisition of the former WWII RAF Bicester Bomber Training Station – a 444-acre site of significant national heritage. Having been largely neglected for nearly four decades, the site was placed on Historic England’s ‘At Risk Register’ in 2008 and recognised as the most vulnerable of all Defence Estates in the UK.
Since then, under Bicester Motion’s stewardship, 99% of the buildings have been carefully restored or adapted for contemporary business use. Today, the site is celebrated by Historic England as a leading example of sensitive and forward-thinking conservation. Its unique period atmosphere remains intact, down to paint colours faithfully matched to 1930s British Standards.
Bicester Motion’s renowned Scramble events, held three times a year, welcome thousands of visitors eager to experience its unique blend of heritage and automotive culture. These open days invite guests to step inside the workshops and showrooms of leading industry specialists, explore avenues lined with classic and modern collector cars, and enjoy curated displays celebrating automotive excellence. Beyond the cars, the Scramble offers entertainment for all ages, from hands-on children’s activities and interactive heritage trails to diverse food and partner experiences. It’s an immersive day out that showcases the site’s vibrant community and historic charm, making it one of the UK’s most distinctive automotive gatherings.
