Oxfordshire housebuilder announces county’s energy saving consumption
After dozens of Oxfordshire families took up the challenge to reduce their home’s gas and electricity consumption, Pye Homes have announced the winner of their sustainable energy-saving challenge – Woodstock resident, Maggy Beeton.
During the four-week initiative, Maggy was able to reduce her energy consumption by 14%, using advice and guidance provided by the housebuilders.
Second place was awarded to Jane Greig from Radley, who managed to bring down her household’s energy usage by 6% over the same period.
More than 50 Oxfordshire families signed up for the competition, which was designed to encourage households to be more energy-conscious, inspired by the energy-efficient homes at Pye Homes new community Church Farm, championing a greener way of life.
The challenge saw families follow simple but effective tips and tricks on how to improve their consumption and ultimately save money – all with the aim of being crowned the county’s energy saving champions, and in the process winning an incredible prize bundle worth over £500.
Maggy said: “I grew up in post-war Britain during the 1950s/1960s. We had no central heating and I remember that our sitting room had a winter and summer layout, as our only source of heat was an open fire. Energy costs and caring for our planet were not particular issues at that time, but fast forward and we all became so used to warm houses and electrical machines, designed to save time and effort and without any thought of cause and effect.
“When I saw the energy challenge, I decided to see if I could improve on my current efforts – the tips and tricks provided reaffirmed what I was doing. If there is one message to take away from this challenge, it is to encourage everyone to keep trying and to nurture our very fragile planet.”
Karis McMahon-Lane, Pye Homes said: “Huge congratulations to Maggy, our energy-saving champion. We know that energy consumption is a real concern for everyone, given the increasing rise of household bills and the cost of living.
“Our aim was to encourage people in the area to join us and take on a simple and fun challenge to be more eco-conscious, but also to discover new ways to try and save some pennies on their energy bills. We were so pleased to see so many families sign up; it’s an initiative we hope to develop even further and bring back every year.”
For buyers looking for a home which puts energy efficiency first, Pye Homes’ Church Farm development in Radley, Oxfordshire ticks all the boxes. This sustainable community, built in partnership with Radley College, is championing a greener way of life. Air source heat pumps, in-roof solar panels and homes which are electric vehicle charging point ready, are just some of the features putting this eco-friendly development on house hunters’ radars.
The development will comprise 240 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes, as well as cycle paths, green spaces and a play area in and amongst the wildflowers.
