Oxford bus driver completes second marathon in record time

Long-serving Oxford Bus Company driver, Arif Khan completed his second London Marathon, with a new personal-record of just two hours and 47 minutes.

In just his second London Marathon run Arif came remarkably close to earning a championship place with the professionals. However, his personal-best time of two hours, 47 minutes and 41 seconds secured his place in the elite class for next year.

The 40-year-old bus driver relentlessly trained for big day, all while fasting during Ramadan and looking after his 10-year-old son. So far, he has raised more than £600 for Cancer Research UK.

Arif said: “After 20 miles, the real marathon starts, but the body never fails, only the mind. If you follow your heart and discipline your mindset, any goal is achievable.

Oxford Bus Company provided Arif with a smart watch and nutrition plan, as well as a Nike kit with full branding from Oxford Bus Company along with a brand-new pair of running shoes.

“Oxford Bus Company have played a pivotal role in my success and I will always be grateful for their support,” said Arif. “Luke and the team have been incredibly helpful throughout my training, from providing me with my running gear, to spreading awareness throughout the company”.

More than 53,000 people completed the run on Sunday, representing 158 nations, with around £67 million raised for charitable causes.

This year saw Kenyan runner Alexander Munyao won securing a time of 2:04:01. Meanwhile, Olympic champion, Peres Jepchirchir (of Kenya) made history, setting a women’s only world-record time of 2:16:16.
