Senior Library Assistant

The Bodleian Library is seeking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join the Asian and Middle Eastern Technical Services Team based at the Bodleian Osney One Building as Senior Library Assistant (Middle East). The role will involve all aspects of technical services work (acquisitions, resource description, classification) relating to Middle Eastern Material.

You will be responsible for ordering, receiving, claiming and invoicing and cataloguing of Middle Eastern Materials in all formats. You will also liaise with the relevant subject librarians, the Asian and Middle Eastern Technical Services Manager and also with vendors and other staff.

This is a permanent, part-time position, working 21.9 hours per week. Some remote working may be possible after training, up to equivalent of 1 day per week by agreement with line manager. During peak times working onsite is essential.

This role requires some regular manual handling – full training will be given.

About You

  • You will have a good reading and writing knowledge of Arabic/Persian and ideally another Middle Eastern language as well as good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • You will have good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially word, excel, outlook, teams).
  • You will also have experience of structured data entry in an online environment (preferably Alma).
