Hook Norton Brewery release second beer in their 175th Anniversary Range – 175 Gold

Hook Norton Brewery have released the second beer in their 175th Anniversary Range – 175 Gold.

As the name suggests, this is a golden ale, strong but subtle with notes of orange and grapefruit. The perfect beer to sip whilst enjoying a lazy sunny Sunday afternoon.

Pubs have played a key role in the brewery’s history and as a nod to this the bottle label features a photo of The Pear Tree Inn at the bottom of brewery lane. Purchased in 1869 The Pear Tree saw the beginning of the brewery pub estate. The pub was originally a substantial 18th century house with a cottage attached with a well at the front, which is still present. The original owner it seems was quite well to do as the front of the building is red brick, a sign of wealth, whereas the remainder is local stone. The name of course comes from the fact that there is a pear tree growing up the front wall. The original tree is still there on the right hand side of the entrance but as an insurance policy this was supplemented by a second one planted in the 1960′s on the left hand side. The Pear Tree has been a favourite of locals and visitors ever since.

Hook Norton Brewery Managing Director James Clarke said: “As a brewery, we are nothing without pubs within which to serve our beer. 175 Gold celebrates all of the pubs that we have worked with over the years.”
