Experience Oxfordshire has eyes on visitor growth in 2025

With the government’s ambition to welcome 50 million international visitors to the UK each year by 2030 front of mind, the team at destination management organisation and local visitor economy partnership, Experience Oxfordshire, is seizing every opportunity to ensure the county benefits from this growth.

Already launched is the 2025 edition of its popular online publication, the Oxfordshire Visitor Guide, packed with itineraries for long weekend breaks, walks, great places to shop and dine, top picks for accommodation and travel information it’s the essential guide for anyone looking for a break away from the routine.

During the first quarter of this year the team are poised to attend top business shows and exhibitions to encourage the domestic and international travel trade and conference buyers to include Oxfordshire in their product portfolios.

January will see the team in London at the annual Britain and Ireland Marketplace when, along with destinations from across the UK and Ireland, they’ll be engaging with key decision makers from international and domestic travel buyers in a series of one-to-one appointments. Following the event a select group of buyers from Canada, alongside representatives from the VisitBritain Canada office, will embark on an educational visit to the county organised by Experience Oxfordshire as part of national tourism agency, VisitBritain’s, Showcase Britain initiative.

In February Experience Oxfordshire has visits planned to meet key influencers out on territory in France, Canada and the USA. Experience Oxfordshire will join VisitBritain in Paris to meet directly with travel agencies and tour operators from across the region to promote Oxfordshire and our partners. Experience Oxfordshire will also be part of a small delegation travelling to New York and Toronto to secure new business for the destination, training leading buyers and meeting with the media from across the UK’s number one inbound market.

Later in the month, along with Experience Oxfordshire partners Didcot Railway Centre, Heythrop Park Hotel, Keble College, Oxford Official Walking Tours, Silverstone Museum and Waddesdon Manor, the team will attend the longest-running UK domestic group travel show, Excursions, at Wembley Stadium for Oxfordshire’s opportunity to meet with and inspire group travel organisers, coach and tour operators. Also in February, Experience Oxfordshire Venues, supported through the OxLEP managed visitor economy renaissance programme, will fly the flag for the county’s fantastic collection of meeting and event venues at International Confex aiming to generate interest in venues partners’ products and services amongst corporate buyers and agencies.

Commenting on the first quarter programme Experience Oxfordshire’s CEO, Hayley Beer-Gamage said: “The government is right to set an ambitious growth target and delivery of it will require commitment from both the government and the sector to work together smartly. As an organisation underpinned by a strong partnership ethos everything we do is planned and executed with the needs of our partners clearly in mind.

“As well as attending exhibitions and shows, carefully chosen to be in our partners best interests, we deliver business support programmes and events to ensure all members of Oxfordshire’s visitor economy, that’s businesses large and small, local authorities and key influencers, are kept up to speed on our sector, its challenges and opportunities. We’d be delighted to hear from any businesses interested in joining our partnership.”

With a packed programme of trade engagement and a partner events calendar including networking, hospitality business lunch and venues and partner meetings, Experience Oxfordshire is looking forward to a successful year of business development and delivery.
