Join to explore how the meanings of “care” have changed and what this means for those doing the caring.

The speakers will examine care and caring from literary, historical, philosophical, domestic and institutional perspectives.

Dr Dinah Roe will discuss care through the poetry and life of Christina Rossetti; Prof Gary Browning will explore caring through the philosophy of Iris Murdoch and Simone Weil and draw on his work with Samaritans, while Prof Marius Turda will consider how ideas of care have been invoked in the history of eugenics and especially psychiatry.
