The Poleaxe Village Green, South Newington
One of the smallest villages in Oxfordshire, South Newington, with just 110 houses, is putting on one of the best traditional Flower & Produce Shows in the county on Saturday 3rd August from 1.30pm – 4pm.
Show more For anyone who wants a great day out that doesn’t break the bank, but does force you to crack open a smile, this is the day for you! Raffle prizes for example have an amazing combined prize value of more than a thousand pounds this year thanks to generous local businesses and families. The selection of eleven different prizes in the raffle includes a weekend at the award winning, luxury Heath Farm Cottages; a meal for two including wine at the Good Food Guide listed pub, the Duck on the Pond; a £50 voucher for the Quince & Clover café in Great Tew and for keen gardeners the chance to win a bulk bag of well-rotted manure! There really is something for everyone. The full list of raffle prizes is below and the organisers can guarantee that there is a million times more chance at winning in this draw than in the national lottery!* In addition there’s also a special raffle just to win a pair of Dubarry Boots. The tea tent in South Newington is famously popular with home-made, freshly baked cakes and freshly brewed tea and coffee for sale in a lovely welcoming tent, giving shelter from sun or rain as required! A BBQ also provides hot food, manned by the legendary Colegrave brothers. Other ‘legends’ who lend a hand include Simon Hambidge from North Oxon Topsoil whose giant tractor will be there for adults and children to sit in; the much-loved Hook Norton Brewery Shire horses will also be at the show pulling the dray loaded with beer, and David Streeter will again be running possibly the most popular stall at the show, the bottle stall. For the first time ever, the show will include table tennis, where you are invited to try and beat the village champion, Neil Hodson. Another highlight of the event is the Dog Show with categories including ‘Waggiest Tail’ and ‘Dog Most Like Its Owner’. Please do come along and register your dog for the show on the day.
