Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Wed 20 - Sat 9 Nov, 19:30 - 22:00
A tale of seduction and treachery among aristocrats in pre-revolutionary France, this classic drama – adapted into the Oscar-winning film Dangerous Liaisons – explores decadent sexuality, manipulation and a ruthless battle for power.
Show more Les Liaisons Dangereuses went on to be retold in the 90s cult film, Cruel Intentions, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillipe, and Reese Witherspoon.
The Marquise de Merteuil incites her former lover, the Vicomte de Valmont, to seduce and corrupt the innocent Cécile de Volanges before her wedding night. But Valmont has targeted the virtuous, and happily married, Madame de Tourvel as his next conquest. Which of these immoral decadents will win their game of manipulation and at what cost?
In this production, by the University of Oxford student company Clarendon Productions, a new lens is pointed at an opulent and savage world about to fall apart. Cinematography is merged with live performance to capture a modern perspective on the bad behaviour of high society.
