Join a special preview screening of Misericordia, the critically acclaimed film that premiered last year at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Written and directed by Alain Guiraudie, this gripping thriller blends suspense with dark humour, exploring themes of forgiveness, morality, and human complexity. The film won the Louis Delluc Prize for Best Film (2024), was named Best Film of the Year by Cahiers du cinéma and received eight nominations at the 50th César Awards.

Jérémie returns to his hometown for the funeral of his former boss, the village baker. He decides to stay for a few days with Martine, the man’s widow. A mysterious disappearance, a threatening neighbour and a priest with strange intentions make Jérémie’s short stay in the village take an unexpected turn.

About Film in Focus The Film in Focus series, presented by the Cultural Programme at Oxford University in partnership with the Ultimate Picture Palace and curated with Dr C.W. Winter, who has brought together this extraordinary partnership and conversation.
The Film in Focus series will showcase some of the finest art house films from last year’s Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Locarno film festivals. Many screenings will feature post-film Q&As with the filmmakers, offering audiences a unique and exciting opportunity to engage with the artists behind the works. The series connects the Cultural Programme at Oxford University with new audiences and partners as the programme prepares for its new home in the Schwarzman Centre in 2025.
