Comedy at Oxford Playhouse this Autumn

Autumn brings a brand-new line-up of comedy acts to The Playhouse stage, with big names, Fringe favourites and inventive tribute performances.

Delighting audiences on the Main Stage next season, Oxford Playhouse welcomes the likes of Nish Kumar, Rachel Parris, Alfie Moore, Maisie Adam and Fern Brady.

As seen on The Mash Report and Taskmaster, Nish Kumar is back on tour with a brand new politically charged stand-up show, Nish, Don’t Kill My Vibe. One of The Guardian and The Telegraph’s 50 Best Comedians of the 21st Century, Nish charges onto stage with jokes about climate collapse, income inequality and so much more in this election year. It’s 80 minutes of sweet, sweet vibe killing, plus support act and interval.

Fellow star of The Mash Report and Late Night Mash, Rachel Parris returns to the Main Stage with her new show, Poise. Join the BAFTA-nominated comedian as she presents a dazzling hour of her signature blend of stand-up and songs. Rachel has been entertaining audiences with her viral satirical segments (which have garnered over 100 million views) and her award-winning improv group Austentatious, she is now back on stage with her widely popular comedy that has made her a household name.

Maisie Adam is due a performance review five years into the job, so she’s going on tour with a brand-new show, Appraisal. Fast becoming one of the UK’s brightest rising stars, Maisie has been awarded Best New Act by Chortle and Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Fringe. Receiving nationwide praise, Maisie’s anecdotal material and witty charm have been seen on shows such as Live at The Apollo, A League of Their Own, Mock the Week, and Have I Got News for You.

Scotland’s queen of comedy Fern Brady (Taskmaster, Live at The Apollo, Roast Battle) makes her debut on the Main Stage with her brand-new show. I Gave You Milk to Drink asks the question: what happens when you get everything you want and it’s not enough?

Detailing his surprising career shift from street cop to BBC radio star during his 40s, Alfie Moore sets to thrill Oxford audiences with his new show A Face For Radio. After serving as a police officer for twenty years, he moved into the world of comedy, appearing on Show Me the Funny and The Wright Stuff. After sell-out runs of his stand-up shows at Edinburgh Fringe, he now presents his own stand-up comedy show on BBC Radio 4, Alfie Moore – It’s a Fair Cop.

Audiences can also look forward to the fast-paced gem Buffy Revamped. In just seventy minutes, comedian Brendan Murphy brings the entire 144 episodes of the hit 90s TV show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to the stage. Told from the perspective of Spike, this hilarious pop-culture parody goes on the road following its award-winning Edinburgh Fringe premiere and sold-out national tours.

Paying glorious homage to the music of one of the most influential voices in British music, Sarah-Louise Young (Fascinating Aïda, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical) brings her critically acclaimed show An Evening Without Kate Bush to The Playhouse. Featuring some of Bush’s classic hits like Running Up That Hill, Cloudbusting and The Man With The Child In His Eyes, the show also throws in some unexpected B-sides and bootlegs alongside unique takes on songs like This Woman’s Work and Babooshka. Made with Russell Lucas, this show comes after its sold-out critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe premiere, London seasons, and UK and Australian tours.
