Charity Super.Mkt returns to Westgate Oxford

Charity Super.Mkt, the ‘department store for second-hand style’ launched in 2023 by Maria Chenoweth and Wayne Hemingway, is set to extend its tenure at Westgate Oxford and will reopen on 18th January.

In response to the growing demand for pre-loved shopping in Oxford, the brand will reopen for three additional months and will continue to create a unique retail experience for guests looking for quality, affordable products. The store will be located in the same unit, on the Lower Mall next to & Other Stories.

The Charity Super.Mkt concept has proved hugely popular with shoppers in Oxford thanks to its curated collections of second-hand fashion. To date, over 3,500 items of clothing have been snapped up by the centre’s guests, generating a much-needed additional income of over £37,000 for charities including Sobell Hospice, Havens Hospice and TRAID.

Brendan Hattam, Centre Director at Westgate Oxford, said: “We’ve seen that our guests are really engaging with the trend for pre-loved fashion, so it’s a huge win-win to be welcoming back such a fantastic brand which sells not only stylish, hand-picked garments but also benefits a range of local charities.

“Charity Super.Mkt is a proven concept which has been exciting shoppers across the UK for the past year. Their ethos aligns with Westgate Oxford’s continued commitment to becoming a more sustainable retail destination, so we’re delighted that they’re opening their doors once again.”

Wayne Hemingway, Charity Super.Mkt Co-founder, said: “It has been a whirlwind of a year since we started on this journey to show that charity fashion garments could and should be part of a modern retail mix in the busiest of shopping centres.  Charity Super.Mkt is proving that and much more.

“The Westgate pop-up has demonstrated that the concept is not only exciting to shoppers who are becoming increasingly more climate conscious but is also creating uplifts in footfall. Most importantly, every pound spent in store is a ‘good pound’, so customers are providing much needed income for a range of brilliant local causes.

“We’re thrilled to be catering to that demand by opening another temporary store at Westgate Oxford, and we’re excited to see the centre’s guests browsing the store’s array of specially curated items once again.”

TRAID CEO and Co-founder, Maria Chenoweth, commented: “My career and ambition has always been to promote second-hand fashion as the most impactful way to dress ourselves. The creation of Charity Super.Mkt has brought charity retailers into mainstream retail, gaining locations that would have otherwise been inaccessible.

“Westgate Oxford’s Charity Super.Mkt store gives local charities including Sobell House Hospice, Havens Hospice and TRAID the opportunity to raise more funds.  That means more nursing time in hospices, and in TRAID’s case support for the people who make our clothes. We’re delighted to be re-opening Charity Super.Mkt into the heart of Oxford following the success of its first stint over the festive season.”

Charity Super.Mkt will reopen at Westgate Oxford on 18th January until 17th April, it will be located on the Lower Mall next to & Other Stories.
