Blenheim Palace partners with Lucy Fleming and Simon Williams to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum
Oxfordshire-based UNESCO World Heritage Site, Blenheim Palace has announced that it will be hosting the ‘Posting Letters to the Moon’ event with Lucy Fleming and her husband, Simon Williams, to celebrate the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum’s 10th Anniversary.
On Wednesday 2nd October, Lucy Fleming and Simon Williams will be performing ‘Posting Letters to the Moon’ in Blenheim Palace’s beautifully decorated Marlborough Room, bringing to life their story of wartime letters exchanged between her mother, Celia Johnson, and her father, Peter Fleming, the renowned adventurer and writer, brother of the Bond author Ian Fleming.
Tickets to the event from 6:30pm to 9:30pm include the show in Blenheim Palace’s Marlborough Room, a champagne reception and a three-course dinner in the Orangery.
These touching letters from Celia to her husband describe experiences during the war, from coping with a large isolated house full of evacuated children, learning to drive tractors, dealing with rationing, occasional holidays in Cornwall where she took to surfing, and all the while accepting offers, where she could, to act – for films, broadcasts, and ultimately in 1945 starring in the classic film Brief Encounter.
The Marlborough Room which can accommodate up to 150 people is just one of many spaces that Blenheim Palace has to offer for private events including the newly renovated Orangery, which reopened in 2024. This Grade I Listed building now features a restored solid slate roof and a contemporary-chic interior, blending modern elegance with timeless charm. The Orangery, with its captivating bar, opens onto the Italian Terrace, overlooking the private Italian Garden and Croquet Lawn, accommodates up to 120 guests ideal for events such as weddings, conferences, product launches, and luxury dining.
Additional event spaces include the Long Library for up to 250 guests; the Spencer Churchill Room for 50 guests; and the Campaign Rooms, ideal for conferences and intimate gatherings with views of the Italian Garden and East Courtyard.

About Blenheim Palace
Home to the Dukes of Marlborough since 1705, Blenheim Palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Set in over 2,000 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped park and gardens, it was designed by Vanbrugh in the Baroque style and is also the birthplace of one of Britain’s most famous leaders, Sir Winston Churchill.
With over 300 years of history to share and one of the most important and extensive collections in Europe, the magnificent stately home has a rich variety of cultural highlights and an extensive programme of special events and exhibitions.
The total Estate expands into a further 10,000 acres outside of the designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and focuses on care for the land through sustainable means, pursuing net zero, the growth of the local economy, the provision of affordable homes, apprenticeship training and supported community groups as part of its ambition to make this part of Oxfordshire a fairer and better place.
