Gottlieb Wallisch (piano)
Wed 13 Nov, 19:30 - 21:30
JdP Music Building, St Hilda's College, Oxford
Gottlieb Wallisch’s recital commemorates the 150th anniversary of Schoenberg’s birth as well as the work of his student Egon Wellesz, who died in Oxford 50 years ago. The fin-de-siecle impressionism of Wellesz’ cycle ‘Der Abend’ (1909/10) is contrasted with Wilhelm Grosz’s Symphonic Variations, op. 9 from 1920: a monumental piece that combines a post-Mahlerian musical language with highly virtuosic pianism. This recital is presented in association with the Faculty of Music and the UdK Berlin [Universität der Künste Berlin].
