Westgate Oxford to Partner with Oxford Food Hub this Harvest Season
Westgate Oxford has announced that it has partnered with Oxford Food Hub to host a community awareness event this Sunday, 29th September.
The event will invite guests to learn about how to make the most out of their food, whilst teaching about food waste and how to tackle it. Oxford Food Hub will also be handing out free meal planners to guests and will showcase a range of food products which are habitually wasted.
What’s more, the centre will be providing Oxford Food Hub with vegetables grown on its roof terrace vegetable garden.
With an aim to redistribute surplus food, Oxford Food Hub rescues excess foods from wholesalers, supermarkets and restaurants throughout the county before distributing it to local charities and community organisations.
Brendan Hattam, Centre Director at Westgate Oxford, commented: “Community is at the heart of everything we do at Westgate Oxford. We are proud to be able to create inclusive spaces that not only make a positive contribution to the communities they serve, but also build value and enhance the quality of life for those using them.
“We are sure that Oxford Food Hub’s awareness event will be a success, and we encourage guests to come down on Sunday and learn how they can utilise their surplus food for good.”
A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Food Hub, added: “We are delighted to work with the Westgate Oxford team to make sure the produce from their veggie patch is enjoyed by people who need good quality, healthy food the most. We’re looking forward to meeting guests on the 29th September, when we are hosting a food waste awareness event – please stop and say hi!”
