Wed 20 Nov, 09:45 - 17:00
Sutton Courtenay Environmental Education Centre, Abingdon
A course for adults to carve their own spoon from green wood, using an axe and carving knives.
Carving freshly cut green wood with a sharp axe and knife is immensely satisfying and making a product that is both practical and beautiful from locally harvested wood is very rewarding.
Show more Starting with a round of wood use the axe and chopping block to shape a spoon blank before moving on to use a craft knife and hook knife to further refine the bowl and handle. The workshop will also cover tool sharpening and finishes for your spoon. All tools and materials are provided, just bring enthusiasm!
The course will be led by David Knight, David says “I have been exploring woodland crafts for over 20 years and have a keen interest in relating an understanding of woodland ecology with the practical skills of woodland management and craft skills of making products from a wonderful sustainable raw material. I take my past experience in University continuing education into my teaching of craft skills to offer a rich immersive experience.”
