Evening & Weekend Library Assistant

The Bodleian Libraries are looking for two enthusiastic and reliable Evening & Weekend Library Assistants to join our small team in the busy Philosophy and Theology Faculties lending library.

Your duties will include front-line reader services, working at the library desk providing circulation services, working with both the University’s online library catalogue (SOLO) and the automated library management system (Alma), and responding to simple reader queries in person, by phone and online. You will also fetch and re-shelve books, scan extracts of texts for the Scan & Deliver service, and assist with projects such as the transfer of books to the offsite storage facility.

This is a fixed-term, variable hours post until 30 June 2025. You will work between 2 and 5 hours per week in term-time, weeks 0-8, with start-date of Michaelmas Term 2024 (14 October, 2024). The post-holder will normally be expected to work 1-2 hours per week, Monday-Friday evenings, plus rotating Saturday shifts (3.5 hours per shift), during Oxford terms only.

This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.

Remote working is not possible for this role.
