Cogges Summer Theatre on the Manor Lawn: Romeo and Juliet by Truth Told Theatre
Wed 20 Nov - Fri 19 Jul, 18:00 - 21:00
Cogges Manor Farm, Witney
Cogges Summer Theatre on the Manor Lawn. Hailed as Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, this tale of ‘star-crossed lovers’ from two feuding families still resonates today. Covering the themes of love, hate, grief, remorse and more, audiences are promised an action-packed show.
Show more Truth Told Theatre is a new venture for Louise Taney, she has directed and acted in many productions locally and trained at The Oxford School of Drama. Her passion for Shakespeare is the driving force for her theatre company where she has a mission for everyone to enjoy his plays. “Romeo and Juliet is the original teen drama that ends in tragedy. Although the ending is extreme, similar storylines can be seen in modern soap operas such as Eastenders and Hollyoaks; it’s about teenagers not being listened to and being forced to conform to the rules of the adult world, along with gang warfare, all of which are still relevant today”. Louise condenses his plays down to a manageable performance duration of two hours and strives to make her shows visually stunning, fast paced and full of action, so contemporary audiences of all ages and life experiences can relate.
Louise says “I love the unique setting of Cogges: it’s in a town and yet as soon as you step into the grounds it’s like you’re in a different time from a bygone era, which is so special for performing Shakespeare.” This year’s Romeo and Juliet performance will be over three evenings in July – tickets are on sale now, with student prices too for those studying the play.
