History of Science Museum public consultation

Staff, students and members of the public are warmly invited to a series of consultation events on the proposed refurbishment of the History of Science Museum on Broad Street.

This will be an opportunity to find out more about the proposals to transform the world’s oldest surviving public museum building to safeguard its future – and to share ideas and suggestions to improve them.

Information on the project, including a 3D model and a bird’s eye tour through an artist’s impression of the transformed Museum, will be on display in Blackwell Hall in the Weston Library on Broad Street from Monday 8 July to Sunday 21 July 2024.

If you would like to discuss the proposals and share your views in person, members of the project team will be present at the following times:

  • Wednesday 10 July, 12pm to 2pm
  • Saturday 13 July, 11am to 2pm
  • Tuesday 16 July, 5pm to 7pm
  • Thursday 18 July, 12pm to 2pm

You are also welcome to email any comments or suggestions to V24@hsm.ox.ac.uk  and the team are happy to arrange a call to discuss the project if you are unable to visit the consultation in person.

The key aims of the proposals are to make this unique building fully accessible and inclusive for all from the moment visitors step through the entrance on Broad Street, to preserve and restore its historic fabric, and to make it sustainable.

The team are fully committed to taking care at every stage of the project to conserve and enhance the building’s historic and architectural significance while transforming it for the third millennium.
