After sell-out success last year, Rush Theatre Company returns to Oxford to celebrate The King of Reggae

Oxford Playhouse is delighted to welcome back Rush Theatre Company as they present The King of Reggae – The Man – The Music, following a sell-out run of the critically acclaimed RUSH – A Joyous Jamaican Journey last year.

Taking to the Main Stage on Friday 2 & Saturday 3 August, The King of Reggae – The Man – The Music celebrates the man who brought Reggae music to the world, Bob Marley. The musical show features over twenty of his iconic hits, including One Love, No Woman No Cry and Is This Love. These much-loved songs will be played live on stage by the celebrated group, The King of Reggae Band. The band is formed of musicians who have played with the likes of George McCrae, Overproof Sound System, Chaka Khan, Pato Banton, and Ruby Turner.

Rush Theatre Company will tell his remarkable story through words and music, following his journey from being a young man in a government yard in Trenchtown to becoming an international Rastafari icon. The production touches upon every aspect of the Jamaican superstar’s musical, spiritual and political life, as well as the global impact of his music.

IKA performs the lead vocals throughout the story, embodying Bob Marley himself. He is heavily influenced by Gospel and has worked with artists like Cece Peniston and Carlene Anderson.

Bringing the musical icon’s story to life is Andrina Davis, who will play the role of the King of Reggae Narrator. With a background in musical theatre, she has forged a career in acting and comedy. Starring in the screen play Love Is, she also performs stand-up under her stage name Blackstyle.

Tickets for The King of Reggae – The Man – The Music at Oxford Playhouse start from £14 and are available from Box Office: 01865 305305 or book online at www.oxfordplayhouse.com
