Hayley Beer-Gamage, Chief Executive of Experience Oxfordshire, has recently been elected as the new Chairman of the Tourism Society. She was elected during the Society’s board meeting held in London on December the 9th, and takes over from Sandra Matthews-Marsh who held the position for two years.

Tourism Boom in Oxfordshire

Experience Oxfordshire, the Destination Management Organisation (DMO) for the county has just unveiled the new economic impact results of tourism. The study commissioned by Tourism South East shows an increase across the whole of Oxfordshire for 2014. The new results show that in 2014 Oxfordshire welcomed 26.7 million visitors to the county, who in turn spent £1.86 billion in the local economy and supported over 32,000 jobs.

On Monday 26 October Chiltern Railway’s new rail link between Oxford Parkway and London Marylebone ran for the first time. This new rail link is the first between London and a major British city for over 100 years, and has been ten years in the making. The new rail link gives commuters and tourists alike a way to go from Oxford to London in only 60 minutes, making both the cities more accessible.
